…..has the meaning “the worship of words”.   Although rarely used, it has previously been applied to religions and sets of beliefs, for example Christianity could be termed an ‘epeolatric religion’ due to the reliance that is placed on the words in the Holy Bible.

Derived from a Greek term, it was created and used by Sir Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1860.  Sir Holmes was a poet and author as well as serving as a physician, professor, lecturer and inventor.  He also created the word ‘Anaesthesia’ during his training and workings in the medical profession.
