words

So, what have we dug out from the books on this grey Thursday….

PULCHRITUDE

Meaning beauty……’the pulchritude of a woman’.  The term is usually attributed to female beauty but I have to admit that the word does not awaken in me visions of beauty, but rather something putrid!  Given it’s foul sounding identity the word is rarely used, except in particular works of literature.

However, just in case you feel like using it on a loved one as a late Valentine’s compliment in telling them they are beautiful…… to be clear, they would be ‘pulchritudinous’.
